The Company You Keep
The old saying goes, "You are known by the company you keep." That goes for your friends and neighbors, as well as the companies with which you choose to do business. However, "good company" goes both ways. As a Chartered Financial Consultant with 25 plus years in the financial field, Robert Dokken is in the enviable position of being able to choose his clients; and he chooses to work with the nicest folks around.
In his bestselling book, KEEP FROM LOSING YOUR STUFF, Robert prints his Mission Statement. It's simple and made up of only two parts.
- I treat every client like I'd treat my own mother.
- I don't work with butt-heads.
As a result, clients in the Dokken Report family are made up of the nicest folks around. Our clients are also loyal, bringing in their families and friends to be part of the Dokken Report family. Because of the dedication to the well-being of his clients, the past 25 years have seen only one actionable client complaint; and that one case says a lot.
Going on 10 years ago, two friends bought a time share unit in a Mexican Resort then eventually went broke. As a result, the clients lost their money and blamed Robert, even though they had personally gone to Mexico to check out the resort. The clients filed a complaint with the NASD that resulted in a two year investigation which found no fault on Robert's part. Then the clients complained to the Department of Financial Regulation, and again, Robert was not found to be at fault. The clients then filed a complaint with the Florida Attorney General's office which dismissed the case.
Finally, the clients took their case to an arbitration by FINRA, and after all that time, the Mexican timeshare had been reclassified as a security and Robert had to refund the clients' money.
This painful experience brought with it a valuable lesson. Being watchful of the company you keep is important not only for the customer, but also for the service provider. That's why Robert watches very closely the company he keeps.
Robert shares this story because it's vital for you to know the background of the companies you choose to trust with your hard earned money.
Robert's files are full of hundreds of testimonials and letters of thanks. He enjoys the trust and appreciation of clients that he's helped over the years, along with their friends and families.
If you choose to be part of the family, you can rest assured knowing two things:
First of all you'll be treated like part of the family. As in Robert's Mission Statement: "I treat every client like I'd treat my own mother."
Secondly, besides being with a great company, you'll be in great company. If you have the chance to attend one of the Dokken Report client appreciation events, you'll see yourself surrounded by hundreds of the nicest people you'll ever meet.
